Caunes-Minervois marble Zeus. |
We picked up our car this morning and headed out to Caunes-Minervois, famous for its high quality red and white-veined marble used in both Versailles and the Opera House in Paris. The 8th century Romanesque Abbey of St. Peter and St. Paul is spectacular. The town's Medieval streets and Renaissance houses are charming and completely impractical today even though the homes are wired, plumbed, and occupied.

20th century village wash house. Ya, you read that right. The public wash house is where linens were laundered and rumors were spread. |
