Carcassonne—Day 2

Today we started looking around in earnest. I've included some cathedrals, churches, and chapels we enjoyed on our walk this morning. From our door (including its cool knocker pictured below) walked up Rue du Dr. Albert Toomey to the train station and back home along Rue Georges Clemenceau, the next street over—overall a mere five mile stroll. Enjoyed lunch in our apartment, read some, and napped, of course.

St. Vincent bell tower, circa 1300-1400. We climbed
232 steps for some spectacular views of Carcassonne.
St. Vincent tower stairwell.
St. Vincent's from Bastide's north bastion. Bastions are
fortifications built to protect the new town (Bastide)
circa 1300's.
St. Vincent pipe organ.
St. Vincent's front door.
St. Michel's Cathedral completed 1803 and restored 1849,
one of the new kids on the block. Taken from St. Vincent
bell tower.
St. Vincent bell tower, step 233.
La Cite/Carcassonne fortress (circa 750) from St. Vincent
bell tower.
And a new city (Bastide) has grown up at La Cite's feet.
Rue du Dr. Albert Tomey from St. Vincent
bell tower.
Carmelite Chapel circa 1200.
