Carcassonne—a river walk

We took one of three Aude River walks today. This one was reported as 7km, but we extended it, beginning at the train station because we needed to purchase our tickets for Barcelona. We think we walked about six miles, but mainly we simply enjoyed the warm weather and scenery.
Old Bridge to La Cite. Note little round object on the right
at the top of the tree.

This is the previously mentioned object. Yep, it's a YUGE!
wasp nest.

Park adjacent to Aude River. Some of the river is diverted,
creating an island park below La Cite. Here you are in the
middle of Carcassonne and it feels as if you're in the country.

Park workers pruning trees take a break.

River crossing three kilometers down the path for those who
don't want to take the bridge.

On one side of the river are vineyards, homes with horses,
goats, and other livestock; and on the other is Carcassonne.
Guess which side we're on?

You can tell we crossed over to the Carcassonne side of the
river, because you can see La Cite. We are impressed that a
path extends for miles along both sides of the Aude River.
City dwellers can find peace easily here.

The promenade just outside the Bastide medieval wall will
be packed with flea marketers Saturday. We're soaking up
some sun on a bench so I snapped a few shots.

Jacobins Portal into the Bastide ("new" city).

Deciding whether to take a drink from the fountain. He did.

Playing boulle with a pal. I took this and the previous four
shots while sitting at one of the many benches lining the
promenade.
