 Grenoble to Clermont-Ferrand

Not much to write, because we spent three and a half hours driving and one hour being lost and taking a break at a lovely rest stop after we figured out how to escape Lyon. Thought we might have to move there if we couldn't figure out the maze of roads and wacky road signs. Thankfully, our GPS worked just fine.

We are staying at the Clermont-Ferrand Ibis, because this is simply a stop on the way to Puy de Dome UNESCO site, weather permitting. Martin suggested we take the train to the top of the volcano if the weather is clear because the views are spectacular. Afterward, we'll find our way to a farm house BnB Thomas suggested. It's just two hours from Puy de Dome so Tuesday's driving should be less hectic and strenuous.

The view from our Grenoble hotel. It was our
first sunny day and the morning light on the
building across Victor Hugo Place had a gold
hue to it. The best part was the view of the Vercors,
the mountain range we drove across yesterday

Rest stop half way between Lyon and
Clermont-Ferrand.

Rest stop board suggesting things to do nearby.

This cafe was opposite Subway and
offered real coffee. The dog was
cooling off on the cool floor. It was
sunny and warm (74F/23C).

Casino is a convenience store. We purchased some
juice and snacks and took a little break in the air
conditioned rest stop. 30 minutes after leaving the
rest stop we we caught in a torrential downpour
lasting about 25 minutes.

After checking into the Ibis hotel we
took a 2.5 mile walk to stretch our legs.
