Cork to Killarney—Wednesday

April 17th

Today we left Cork on the 10:25 changing trains at Mallow. By 1PM we were checked into Killarney Towers and off to the Tourist Information Centre to confirm this is where we meet our Paddywagon coach for the Ring of Kerry Tour. This tour offers panoramic views of the countryside and the coast along Dingle Bay and what's called the Wild Atlantic Way.

We also got directions for walks in the National Park that lead to Ross Castle and the agent explained about taking a bus to Muckross House and Gardens and Muckross Abbey. She suggested taking a bus to Muckross House and walking back along Lough Leane, the lake in Killarney National Park adjacent to Killarney town. So, if the weather holds, we're hoping to make this walk.

Then we walked the town, covering it easily in 30 minutes before getting out of the mist and chill and having "linner" (lunch/dinner) at the pub connected to the hotel.

Country outside Cork on our way to Mallow.

The engineer taking it easy at Mallow.

We only had a 20 minute wait before
leaving for Killarney.

We're doing our best to ignore the
news but not the comics.

Home for the next four nights.

We'll have to explore all the lanes.

O'Donoghue's is attached to our hotel
and is a lovely pub that offers a full
menu of food and all manner of drink.

We shared a grilled ham and cheese
sandwich, this hearty tomato soup
with Guinness walnut bread. The
perfect meal on this chilly, soggy
afternoon.
