France 2026—May 28th, Our Last Day in Paris

 May 28th, Day 8

I thought the Musee d'Orsay was closed, but it's being partially renovated and still open, so I was able to get tickets our last full day in Paris. It's been 20+ years since I last visited and twice that for Marie. It was time for a refresher. Well that, and it would provide an opportunity to avoid the heat, because it's going to be hot, too damn hot!

We'd forgotten how big this former train station was and how many art galleries there were. I've included just a few of the "greatest hits" but there was so much more I could have added to this blog entry.

Gare d'Orsay, a Beaux Arts railway station, was built between 1898-1900. Victor Laloux, one of the architects, also designed the railway station at Tours.

This gallery included three other examples of Birth of Venus paintings.

Loved looking down this hallway through the Art Nouveau
galleries to the dining room table.

And now it's time for some Van Gogh, Monet, and Renoir.

Van Gogh painted his room where he spent one year in a mental hospital in
Saint-Remy-de-Provence. We visited this town and it was a lovely place. This
edwas on our 10.5 hour tour from Avignon.

Claude Monet's Prepartory Sketch.
Monet's Le Pont d'Argenteuil.

Railway Bridge at Chatou by Renoir.

Algerian Landscape, Ravine of the Wild Woman by Renoir.

Young Girls at the Piano by Renoir.

You'll recognize the following sculpture and painting even before I mention the artist's name.

Right, Degas is the artist.

The artistry of this former railway station is the perfect site for the entire collection.

Time for some Renoir again!
This sketch was his preparation for the following painting.

Time to head home for lunch and a rest.

We love this grilled veggie sandwich. Added
a couscous salad to lunch today.

We walked over to The Great Canadian and Marie had a margarita and I had a Belgian beer, and then we strolled along some streets near us we hadn't wandered down. We eventually ended up a Le Dante, a cafe we had a lemonade at eight days ago.

This time we ordered dinner and enjoyed creme broule for dessert.

Marie ordered this and it was delicious.

This was my order. Equally tasty!

Our table was just right of the door under the menu posted outside.

I've arranged for a taxi at 10:15AM Friday morning. Our flight isn't until 4PM, but it's okay, because we'll be able to enjoy the International Lounge while we wait to board our flight.

May 29th, really last day in Paris

We're waiting around the apartment for the VRBO representative to give us the all clear that we've left the apartment clean. They don't know us.

This is what the lane looks like when we go out for coffee.
